Feds Say Scams Growing

The Federal Trade Commission reported that people lost over $100 Million dollars in just the first half of 2020, and that Social Media is largely to blame. Partly because more people are spending time online during the pandemic crisis, scammers are taking advantage of the uninitiated to the tune of millions of doallars.

Pretending to be economic relief programs criminals create posts and ads in a lot of places trying to reinforce the idea that the scam is legit. These posts are designed to capture the attention of people who are in dire need of help due to lost wages.

Work from home is another area where criminal intent is rampant. Claims of huge incomes in very short times are nearly all scams. The unemployment situation is again, the central source of targets for these scams.

But they are not the only ones being taken in. Many people are feeling the stress of being alone now and are looking for Relationship Help and these con-men are on the scene. Advertising fake sites aimed to you find a friend or love or whatever. They are quite skilled at copying the methods and wording of the more legitimate dating sites.

They also advertise products at exteme disounts, and then never ship the products after purchases, and close the fake site in short order and create new ads leading to new fake sites.

Solutions
We do not have any solutions to offer that are not either unconstitutional, or draconian in nature. The Social Media platforms have to step up their efforts to curb this behaviour, that much is certain.
